HyperRESEARCH has been an indispensable resource for us. To do qualitative research by hand as it used to be done would be an enormous undertaking. We have somewhere in the vicinity of 5,000 pages of transcribed interviews. If we didn't have the HyperRESEARCH software, we never would have been able to do it. We would have needed to have probably four or five research assistants.

ResearchWare Releases HyperRESEARCH 2.7

BOSTON, Massachusetts - November 29, 2006
ResearchWare, Inc. today released HyperRESEARCH 2.7, a multi-platform software package for qualitative analysis research. The new version offers enhanced display of coded segments of text, automatic backups of data files, significant performance improvements, enhanced appearances on both Windows XP and OS X, and a completely revised integrated concept mapping tool.

HyperRESEARCH is used by researchers in social science research, psychology, usability, and corporate marketing to identify and analyze patterns and trends among qualitative data from a variety of media file types, including text, images, audio and video. Using intuitive tools like case cards, codes and annotations, HyperRESEARCH is popular for its ease of use. It remains one of the few qualitative research products actively developed for both Mac OS and Windows platforms. HyperRESEARCH study and source files are fully cross-platform so users can trade work regardless of which operating system they're using.

Enhancements in HyperRESEARCH 2.7 include:

* Code Stripes, a graphical enhancement making it easy to identify coded segments of text at a glance.

* Completely revised Code Map, an integrated tool for creating simple concept maps, now supports multiple code maps which can include memos and imported images.

* Optional automatic backups of data files, with a convenient inteface for restoring older files if needed.

* Significant performance improvements in many key areas of the software, up to 400%.

* Improved appearances for Windows XP and Mac OS X.

* With the latest version of Apple's QuickTime, HyperRESEARCH supports playback of popular new formats like MPEG-4, 3GPP, H.264, and others.

"As HyperRESEARCH evolves we try to incorporate suggestions from our users in ways that maintain the product's simplicity," said Scott Kinder, president of ResearchWare. "The new code stripes in HyperRESEARCH 2.7 are a good example, making citations immediately clear in an innovatively simple and attractive way."

HyperRESEARCH 2.7 is available for download at the publisher's Web site: <http://www.ResearchWare.com/hr/downloads.html>.

The freely downloadable version of HyperRESEARCH 2.7 has all features enabled with no time limits. Without a purchased registration code the only restrictions are limits on the number of codes and cases in the study, making the free version suitable for evaluation and teaching. A single-user license costs US$370, with discounts available for volume purchases and grad students. Registered users of HyperRESEARCH 2.0 or later can upgrade to version 2.7 for free. See the ResearchWare Web site at <http://www.researchware.com> for details.

HyperRESEARCH 2.7 requires Windows NT/2000/ME/XP or Mac OS X 10.2 or later, with a minimum of 64 MB total memory and 15 MB disk space.

HyperRESEARCH is comptible with new Intel-powered Macintosh computers using Apple's Rosetta technology. A Universal Binary version is in development and expected to ship in the coming weeks as a free update.

Understanding the experience of Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer with HyperRESEARCH

"Little is known about the long-term impact of surviving childhood cancer. Most children diagnosed with cancer now survive into adulthood due to advances in medical treatment. Although the number of survivors of childhood cancer has increased, a review of the literature revealed a paucity of studies that explores survivorship of childhood cancer from the perspective of the adult survivor. The purpose of this phenomenological study was to examine the lived experience of 12 adults who survived childhood cancer. This research methodology allows the meaning or essences of experiences that occurred to be uncovered. Four themes emerged from these data: (1) ongoing consequences for having had cancer, (2) living with uncertainty, (3) the cancer experience is embodied into one's present sense of self, and (4) support is valued. The results of this study demonstrate that a childhood cancer experience affects the life of each survivor, which results in specific health care needs. This knowledge is important as the number of survivors increases. Knowledge of their concerns is imperative prior to providing appropriate health care." This heathcare study, "The Lived Experience of Adult Survivors of Childhood Cancer" by Diana Prouty, PhD, RN (Saint Luke's College), Peggy Ward-Smith, PhD, RN (School of Nursing at University of Missouri–Kansas city), and C. J. Hutto, MHA, RN, CPON (Saint Luke's College of Nursing) was analyzed using HyperRESEARCH and appears in the Journal of Pediatric Oncology Nursing, Vol. 23, No. 3, 143-151 (2006).
