Download HyperRESEARCH™
If you want to try HyperRESEARCH for free: Download the Free Limited Edition from the links below. The Free Limited Edition is suitable for teaching the basics of qualitative research without requiring students to purchase the full package. The Free Limited Edition also acts as a "free reader," able to open a HyperRESEARCH study of any size for review and analysis. You can also use the Free Edition to explore HyperRESEARCH's capabilities to determine if it is the right software for your needs. The Free Edition is fully functional, with the following limits:
- The Code Book is limited to 30 codes.
- A study is limited to 3 cases.
- Each case can have no more than 30 code references.
To continue your work without these limitations, purchase a license using the Buy Now link under the Sales menu. Once you enter your license key, you can continue working with the same files; the only thing that changes is that the number of codes, cases, and code references is unlimited with a licensed copy.
If you have just purchased HyperRESEARCH and want to download it: First download the Free Limited Edition appropriate to your operating system and install it. When you start up the Free Edition, it asks whether you want to enter a license key or continue in free mode. The license key was emailed to you when you purchased HyperRESEARCH. Once you enter your license key, the program removes all the limitations and transforms itself into the full edition.
If you are an existing customer and want to reinstall HyperRESEARCH: Check your license key first to find out whether you need to upgrade. License keys for versions prior to 4.0 do not work with the current version of HyperRESEARCH.
- If your key has UPPERCASE characters beginning with "HR" (e.g. HRXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX), your license key is compatible with the current version of HyperRESEARCH (version 4.x.x).
- If your key has UPPERCASE characters beginning with "R" (e.g. RXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX), your license key is compatible with the 3.x.x versions of HyperRESEARCH (version 3.7.5 being the last). You will need to purchase an upgrade for a new license key for HyperRESEARCH 4.x.x
- If your key has lowercase characters (e.g. xxxx-xxxxxxx), you have the older version 2.x and will need to purchase a new full license for a key for HyperRESEARCH 4.x.x.
If you are upgrading HyperRESEARCH from version 3.x.x (e.g. 3.7.5): Purchase a license key at our special upgrade price. Use the Buy Now link under the Sales menu, and add one HyperRESEARCH Upgrade to your cart. (For institutional orders requiring a purchase order and/or orders for 2 or more licenses at upgrade pricing: contact sales@researchware.com.) After submitting your order, you will receive an email containing a new HyperRESEARCH 4.x.x license key. Next, download the free edition and install it. (No need to re-install if you have already installed the free edition of HyperRESEARCH.) When the program asks for a license key, enter your new key to fully enable HyperRESEARCH.
If you are upgrading HyperRESEARCH from version 2.x (e.g. 2.8.3): Purchase a new license key. Use the Buy Now link under the Sales menu, and add a number of new HyperRESEARCH units equal to the number of license keys you wish to purchase to your cart. You will receive an email containing a new HyperRESEARCH 4.x.x license key for each new license purchased. Next, download the free edition and install it. When the program asks for a license key, enter your new key to fully enable HyperRESEARCH.

PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE DOWNLOADING
Apple's Catalina and higher operating systems use the concept of application entitlements and user permissions and approvals to enhance security. This feature changes with nearly every maintenance release for these versions of the macOS. To ensure that HyperRESEARCH can run under either of these macOS versions, please adhere to the following installation instructions:
1) Download the .dmg file for our Installer for macOS below, and run the installer. You may be warned that the installer is downloaded from the Internet. If you see this warning, click "Open" to run the installer.
2) On the LAST screen of the Installer, there are special instructions for Catalina and higher users. Please read and follow them. They will guide you to grant HyperRESEARCH "Full Disk Access" permission before Finishing the Installer and launching HyperRESEARCH.
The steps the Installer will ask you to perform are:
- Go to the Apple (menu) > System Preferences (menu item) > Security & Privacy (control) > Privacy (tab).
- Scroll down the list of Privacy items until you see "Full Disk Access" and select "Full Disk Access".
- Click the Unlock icon in the bottom left of the window and enter your password.
- Now click the "+" icon under the list of applications with full disk access.
- You will get a file selection dialog. Navigate to where HyperRESEARCH was installed (by default a folder named "HyperRESEARCH 4.5.7" in the Applications folder) and select the HyperRESEARCH application itself.
You have now granted HyperRESEARCH full disk access which supersedes specific access requests with their individual "allow" and "deny" buttons. You can then Finish installation.
The new security features of Catalina, and higher versions, of macOS are user "entitlements" to specify access to certain services. Our applications need specific entitlements for access:
- Access to the Internet. This is to check for new versions and updates, and for license management.
- Access to the "Finder." This is to receive AppleEvents (system messages) if a HyperRESEARCH study file is double-clicked or dragged-and-dropped on HyperRESEARCH to open the Study.
- Access to send an email, which sometime shows as access to your "Contacts." This is for access to your email client in order to send a Problem Report to Researchware if an error occurs in HyperRESEARCH. You will always be prompted whether or not to send any such email. HyperRESEARCH does not access any names or addresses.
With new maintenance releases of Catalina or higher, you may see new variants of these requests or other requests for access. Please allow (click "OK") all such requests so HyperRESEARCH can function properly.

HyperRESEARCH Tutorial Downloads
The HyperRESEARCH package includes seven tutorials to help you get the most out of the program. (The tutorials are located in the "Documentation" folder within the "HyperRESEARCH" folder created when you install HyperRESEARCH.) Everything needed to complete all of the tutorials is included in the package, with the exception of these supplemental media files used in Tutorial 5, "Working with Graphic, Video, and Audio Source Materials." We provide these multimedia files separately in order to keep the main package as conveniently small as possible.
