Please help!

I am about to begin work on coding hundreds of hours of video data and am new to hyperesearch. I am looking for the most time-effective way to code. Right now, if I open a video clip through HR as a source document, once I code a portion, I can't keep watching - the only portion that plays is that one that I just coded. Right now what I have had to do is watch video clips in quicktime, note the time where I want to start coding, open the same clip up again as a source file in HR, code it, close it, etc. Is there an easier way?

I also have a question regarding codes and subcodes. Can I create two code lists - a  master list and a sub code list? This would make reporting easier for me as I am working with large themes, subthemes, sub sub themes etc that ideally could be reported in various combinations with one another. Can I code a video clip using master code and sub code (i.e. two codes)?  Or do I need to create a Master code list with all of this written in (eg. of code,. "images of childhood - innocent child - helpless").

Hi Dito,

You can uncheck the checkbox labeled "Limit Playback to Selection" to keep playing the video.  Other handy workflow tools are the spacebar will toggle the pause and play modes.  Command - [ will set the startpoint and Command - ] will set the end point (use control on PC). The arrow keys will move the play head left and right.  Control + Option with the arrowkeys will jump to the beginning or end of of the current selection. 

You can also add as many codes as you like to a given chunk of video for your sub sub codes and a clever naming convention helps you remember what you were up to. The next version of HR will include built-in hierarchical coding.
