Hello,

I am having trouble with my .txt files in HyperRESEARCH.

Certain characters such as an apostrophe, change to a question mark or other symbol upon import.

Are there 'save as' options that are recommended for text files to prevent this?

When using Microsoft Word, depending of which MS-Word options are turned on, Word will use some special characters. For example, the "Smart Quotes" option, on by default, uses curly quotation marks instread of straight quotation marks.

“ and ” vs. " OR ‘ and ’ vs '

This is the case whether for duoble or single (including apostrophe) quotation marks. These special characters are not represented in standard "text" and so show up typically as a question marks or unknown characters. When saving your MS-Word document as "text", you should see a dialog similar the one in the attached image file (from MS-Word 2003). Be sure the "Allow Character Substitution" box is checked. This will translate MS-Word's special characters to their standard text equivalents.
