While making sense of qualitative data must allow for the occasionally frustrating nature of emerging data, HyperRESEARCH made this method of data analysis a more manageable, coherent, and organized process. I could not imagine trying to sort qualitative data without HyperRESEARCH, and recommend it highly.

HyperRESEARCH was designed to be fully cross-platform and to allow researchers to easily share data, regardless of which platform they're using - Mac or Windows.

To move your study file to a different computer, simply copy the study file and all source files to the other computer. The files can be sent via email or FTP, placed on a file server, or copied to a CD-ROM or floppy disk. (If you need help copying files from one system to another, your local help desk or computer administrator will be able to assist you.)

Because the Mac and Windows operating systems handle files a little differently, there are a couple of points to be aware of. Following these guidelines will help avoid any problems in moving files between platforms.

  • After you move a study file from Mac to Windows, make sure the name of the study file ends in ".hs2". (HyperRESEARCH adds this filename extension automatically, no matter which platform the study file was created on, so you only need to worry about this if you've changed the file's name in the Finder.)
  • Similarly, when you move a source file from Mac to Windows, you'll need to make sure the file's name ends in the appropriate extension in order for Windows to recognize it. The file extension for text files is ".txt", for example. Most OS X applications automatically add the correct filename extension, but most classic Mac OS applications do not.

A recently published study on distance education utilized HyperRESEARCH for analysis of video source material. Teaching and Learning Against all Odds: A Video-Based Study of Learner-to-Instructor Interaction in International Distance Education by Jean-Marie Muhirwa, published in The International Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning in the August 2009 issue is available at: http://www.irrodl.org/index.php/irrodl/article/view/628/1314.In this mixed-methods approach, a quantitative analysis of video interactions in distance learning was complimented with qualitative analysis using HyperRESEARCH.
