Researchware cofounder, Dr. Sharlene Hesse-Biber will be holding a workshop at the 7th Mixed Methods International Conference, held from June 29th, 2011 to July 2nd, 2011 (See our events list for more details). The workshop is in addition to a presentation by Dr. Hesse-Biber on "Infusing Social Policy and Social Change Goals into Mixed Methods Research Designs" on the 29th from 16.00-16.30. The workshop, entitled "Feminist Approaches to Mixed Methods Research" will be held on July 2nd, 2011 from 13:00 - 16:00.

Methods are "tools" or techniques researchers employ in order to answer specific research questions; they are not inherently feminist or non-feminist. What makes feminist research "feminist" lies in the perspectives and research questions that focus on women's issues and concerns. Feminist research addresses questions that expose power, difference, silence and oppression, with the goal of moving toward a more just society for women and other oppressed groups.

This workshop highlights the ways in feminists theoretical perspectives inform the way mixed methods is currently practiced. It address the following questions:

· What is feminist research? We examine the core assumptions that encompass most feminist approaches to research.

· How do feminists integrate mixed methods into their work?

· What feminist perspectives uniquely lend themselves to a mixed methods design?

· We provide a step-by-step guide on how to analyze/integrate/ and write up data from a mixed methods feminist project.

We will provide participants with in-depth case study examples of different ways in which feminists utilize mixed methods approaches.

We will demonstrate in a step-by-step format how to analyze mixed methods data using the HyperRESEARCH software computer program ( www.researchware.com) to facilitate a feminist mixed methods project.

All workshop participants will receive a powerpoint presentation of the workshop along with a web link for a free fully functional demo version of the software program, HyperResearch.
